It may be a hot summer but Disney’s Hollywood Studios is about to be Frozen …

26 Jun

It’s all over the internet today.

Frozen is going to have a huge presence at Disney’s Hollywood Studios this summer.

From July 5th through September 1, 2014, The Studios are going to have numerous opportunities for you to see Anna and Elsa.

Some facts about what is happening.

The premise:  Olaf is on summer vacation in Hollywoodland.  He’s going to show up around the Park and there’s going to be a “Take-Along Olaf” available for your to carry with you as you visit the Park.  I assume this means there are going to be Olafs for sale at various locations throughout the Park.  If you post your photos on social media at #OlafSummerVacation, your picture may show up in the day’s photos.

The Events:

  • Royal Welcome:  Each day at 11:00 a.m., Anna and Elsa will ride down Hollywood Boulevard in a horse-drawn sleigh.  Joining the fun will be skaters, ice cutters, skiers as well as Kristoff.  The procession will end at the Sorcerer’s Hat where there will be an official welcome.
  • Sing-Along:  There will be a sing-along which tells the history of Arendelle.  It will be held at the Premiere Theater (at the end of Streets of America).  Royal Historians will be joined by Anna and Elsa as they tell the story of their kingdom.
  • Trading Post:  Located inside Soundstage One where you can play “winter” type games as well as purchase Frozen related merchandise as well as Frozen inspired food and drinks is Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post & Frozen Funland.
  • Dance Party:  Every night starting at 5:30 p.m. there will be a DJ and live band leading a rock and roll dance party at the Sorcerer’s Hat.  In addition to Frozen hits, there will be classic and contemporary summer hits at what Disney is calling the Coolest Summer Ever Dance Party.
  • Fireworks:  Disney loves fireworks and they’re going to be ending each day at 9:45 p.m. with fireworks set to the music of Frozen.  Again, this event can be viewed from the Sorcerer’s Hat.

Is this all that Disney has planned?  Knowing Disney they’ve got more things planned to entertain us all.

Although they didn’t mention it, and it doesn’t show up on the FastPass page of My Disney Experience, I’m sure that they’re going to have to figure out a way to control the crowds.

If you’re lucky enough to be headed to Walt Disney World this summer, I hope that you get a chance to see at least some of these  events.  Let us know what you think.

Extended Stay …

22 Jun

I told you that we’d just gotten back from a really special trip to Walt Disney World, but what I didn’t tell you was that we were there for almost three full weeks.

Yup.

You read that correctly.

Almost three full weeks.

Before we get to anything else, let me tell you first why we stayed so long.

You see, we initially made these reservations last summer when I was in the middle of chemotherapy.

I had a plan and that plan was to get well and to go to Walt Disney World!

When we originally planned this trip it was scheduled for us to just be there for slightly more than a week, but we found ourselves adding days as it got close to the new year.  At first it was just a day or two on the front end — by mid-April, it had grown from about a week to almost three.

Was it wonderful?  Yes!  It was incredible.  There was none of the usual rush to be sure that we did everything we wanted within our limited time.

So, since I made these reservations almost a year ago, you can tell that there was a lot of planning involved.

It began very simply with making the reservations.  As it got closer to the time to leave, planning picked up substantially.

My Disney Experience came into play.

Figuring out which Park to visit on which day and what to do when … all the things which face every traveler to Walt Disney World … were all part of our pre-trip planning.

Did we stick to that planning?  I tell you about that in the days to come.

Where did we stay?

What did we do?

I’ll get to that soon too.

For now just remember that if you ever have an opportunity for an extended stay on-site at The Walt Disney World Resort, DO IT!

If you’re like us, you’ll come home refreshed and relaxed — in need of going back to work to pay for the trip, but feeling wonderful.

There and back again …

17 Jun

You always see the ads for Walt Disney World indicating that it will take you to a magical place and it does.

Now I’ve always enjoyed going to visit the Great Mouse as much as everyone else, but until this last visit, it was just a wonderful trip to Disney.

But this trip?

This trip was special … very special.

Let me explain …

We made these reservations last summer when I was in the middle of chemotherapy.  When you book your reservations, they always ask if you are celebrating any special occasions — birthday or first visit  or personal achievements.  My response was a resounding “yes”.

I proudly wore my “I’m celebrating” button and my husband wore his everywhere we went.

You see, I was celebrating life and my husband was celebrating my being alive.

The initial response when we said this was usually a laugh but as soon as we explained why, everyone completely understood.

Often their reaction to my response would lead a few moments of shared information about a family member or loved one who was fighting a similar battle to the one I am waging.  Hopefully during our time together I was able to give to these wonderful people who bring so much joy to so many, a moment of peace and hope in their lives.  It is so little to do for someone who does so much for all of us.

You never know the “baggage” that someone is carrying with them … even in the happiest place in the world.

This is too cool!

If you have a child who is developmentally delayed walking, there is a new product which is about to hit the market which could change your child’s life and how he/she experiences the world!

Developed by an Israeli mother, the Upsee is a harness system which allows the parent to help the child “walk“.  The full name of the harness system is: Firefly Upsee Harness

I saw a “blurb” on the Yahoo news website and after watching (and reading) the ABC news link they’d posted, I started looking around for more information.  Here is the Yahoo link:

http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/mom-invents-harness-help-disabled-kids-walk-163812973–abc-news-health.html?vp=1

A Google search will give you all sorts of information on this product if you are are interested.

The unit is being manufactured by an Irish company, Leckey, and is scheduled to go on sale worldwide beginning April 7.  Available to fit children 3 to 8 years old, it will cost about $540 plus shipping.

If you visit the harness’ website (http://www.fireflyfriends.com/webinar), you will see that there will be live video conferences scheduled for the following dates and times:

Exclusively Live

1st, 2nd and 3rd April 2014

11am BST, 5.30pm BST (1.30pm EST, 10.30am PST)

If it’s something that might be of use to you and your family, be sure to check it out!

Guess who’s coming to Disney …

20 Mar

Me?

You?

Although I hope both are true, that’s not the answer to this particular question … this time …

As you most likely know, Star Wars Weekends at MGM (aka Disney Studios) are coming up at the end of May and beginning of June.

This year, for the first time ever, Mark Hamill will be attending one of the Star Wars Weekends!

Yup … Luke is going to be joining the force ..

He is currently scheduled to be there Weekend IV, June 6-8, 2014 and to participate in the Legends of the Force motorcade as well as in the the talk show.

If you’ve been thinking about going, this may just be the excuse you needed!

This appearance is sure to be very popular so you want to arrive early.

As more details about this event, as well as all of the Star Wars Weekends events are released, I’ll let you know.

You can also visit the following website to learn more about events at the Weekends:

Hope you can make it.  As long-tim Star Wars fans we sure wish we could!

What time does the 3:00 parade get here?

10 Mar

Right now!

The brand new parade is finally rolling at the Magic Kingdom!  It began March 9th …

Although I’ve not seen the parade in person, I have seen numerous photos and a couple of videos and from what I’ve seen, the new Festival of Fantasy parade is absolutely beautiful!

I’ve shared one of the videos so that you can have a look.  I’ve mentioned this amazing photographer before and he has taken photos of each of the floats and many of the street performers too so you might want to check out his Facebook page:  WDW Shutterbug.  It will be worth your time.

Enjoy …
